Daughter of Arthur Franklin Ross and Ruth McCullough. Edie graduated from Marshall High School in 1939. She worked at Atlas Powder Company and, during World War II, in the acid lab at Monsanto Chemical Company in Karnack. Edie married William W.W. Allen in 1943. The couple were married for 38 years and had three children. After Bill’s death, she married Elmer R. Dixson in 1988.

Edie was a longtime volunteer with East Texas Medical Center. She volunteered at First Presbyterian Church with Stephen Ministries and many other programs and events. She also served as a deacon. Edie was an avid bridge and mahjong player.

Edie was predeceased by both husbands; her parents; sisters, Mildred Benedict of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Helen O’Dell of Longview; and a nephew, Johnny O’Dell of Longview. She was survived by three children, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, twin sisters and a brother-in-law.
