The funeral for Jean Foley Ferguson, 88, of Oakridge Drive, Bassett, who died June 8, 2009 at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home, Bassett Chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

She was born in Kimball, W.Va., on Sept. 19, 1920, to John Abe Foley and Fannie Bryant Foley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elba Amos "Dude" Ferguson; a daughter, Jane Yvonne Ferguson; a grandson, Jeremy Sickman; four sisters, Katherine Crawford, Grace Ashworth, Lenna Rakes and Esther Ingram; and five brothers, Fred, Arthur, John, Zander and Harry Foley.

She completed high school at the Blue Ridge Mission School in Patrick County and received her B.S. degree from Radford State Teacher's College (now Radford University).

She taught school for 36 years in Roanoke, Botetourt and Henry counties, retiring from Stanleytown Elementary School.

She was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Roanoke.

Surviving are three sons, Gehrig Ferguson of Roanoke, Joe Ferguson of Blountstown, Fla., and Ricky Ferguson of Bassett; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchilden.
