On the 1940 Arlington, Arlington Co., VA census, I found widow Nora E Herring, 45; daughter or sons: Elizabeth N Herring, 20; painter Blaine V Herring, 17; Edward F Herring, 14, all Virginia born.
Elizabeth Nora Herring was the daughter of Barbour Franklin Herring and Nora Elizabeth Bladen. She married Claude Carter Cornell, the son of Thomas Edison Cornell and Mary Virginia Carter, on 17 Jun 1940 in Fairfax, VA. They had 5 lovely daughters.
She made the best chicken gravy ever.
