Clarence was the first son born to his parents, Austin Ormond Beckwith and Jeanette Pauline Jones Beckwith. Clarence had two older sisters and three younger brothers. They were Ruth, Lula Vern, Francis Lloyd, Glen Wells, and Benjamin Merl. His sister Ruth died in 1889 at one year and two months of age. She is buried in the Arlington Cemetery, Bangor, Van Buren Co., Michigan.

Clarence was 23 when he married 18 year old Susan Christiana Ashley on Nov 26 1913 in Paw Paw, Van Buren Co., Michigan. They had 2 sons. Ormond was the first born on Sep 5 1914. An infant son was still born on May 25, 1918.

Clarence served as a Private in the US Army during WW1. He and Susan were married 4 1/2 years when he was inducted March 5 1918 in Paw Paw. He was 27 1/2 years of age, standing 5'6", with brown hair and grey eyes. He was honorably discharged from Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Feb. 3, 1919 (in good health with no wounds reported).

The marriage of Clarence & Susan ended in divorce on June 12, 1919 in Van Buren County, Michigan. Three months after the divorce, 5 year old Ormond died (of Scarlet Fever I am told). Susan went on to marry Lynford Irwin on June 23, 1919.

Clarence married again on June 9 1926 to Ruth Pemberton Randall at St. Bartholomew's Church in Ely, White Pine Co., Nevada. While in Nevada, Clarence made a living as a blacksmith and also drove truckloads of dynamite. He corralled wild mustangs as well and eventually opened his own gas station.

While in Ely, Clarence & Ruth were greeted by a darling daughter on Mar 24 1927. She was born on the exact anniversary of Clarence's beloved mother's death, just one short year before. They honored his mother's memory by naming the newborn Jeanette Pauline Beckwith. Baby Jeanette shared this name with another cousin, and so to distinguish their difference, they called their baby, "Jane". That nickname is what she went by for the rest of her life.

Jane grew up in Ely as an only child, adoring her father. Jane eventually married Robert Brown, and they produced two daughters. Clarence & Ruth moved to rural Las Vegas, which is where he developed liver cancer in 1954. He lived for one year after being diagnosed. His occupation, as stated on his death certificate, was that of a carpenter in the building trade.
