Phyllis was the daughter of Everett & Leona (Franklin) McGrath. She married Harry Glover Ambrose June 30, 1946 in Nevada at the Methodist Church and they had 2 sons; Mark and Harry "Craig" Ambrose.

Phyllis (McGrath) Ambrose, 56 of 521 G Ave., died of cancer Tuesday, May 24, 1983 at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 26 at the United Methodist Church. Rev. Harold Wagner will officiate. Burial will be at the Nevada Cemetery.
Phyllis McGrath was born to Everett L. and Leona (Franklin) McGrath on Oct. 16, 1926, in Afton. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines in 1944, and attended Grinnell College in Grinnell.
She was married to Glover Ambrose on June 30, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Nevada. She was a homemaker and also worked in the family's clothing business.
She was affiliated with the United Methodist Church, where she had been a choir member for 37 years, several of them as choir director. She was a member of Chapter AM PEO, Kensington Club and helped organize the local Rainbow Chapter. She was also a board member of the Nevada Fine Arts association and the Ames International Orchestra Association (AIOFA). She was selected by the Soroptomist Club as the 1982 Woman of the Year.
She is survived by her husband, Glover; two sons, Mark M. and H. Craig, both of Nevada; her father, Everett McGrath of Nevada; and a granddaughter, Emily.
