Found in The State 27 May 1951: General Hagood Aaron, 80, of 835 Ohio street, died at 4 o'clock yesterday morning at the Columbia Hospital following declining health of several years and a critical illness of ten weeks. Mr. Aaron, a native of Eastover, was son of James Aaron and Martha Huggins Aaron. He had lived in Columbia for the past 30 years. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 this afternoon from the Southside Baptist church. The Rev. W. Lloyd Hellams, assisted by the Rev. James M. Copeland, pastor of the Whaley Street Methodist church, will officiate. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lula Coker Aaron; four sons, William H. Aaron, D. Walter Aaron, W. Rubin Aaron, and Colie L. Aaron, all of Columbia. Also five daughters, Mrs. Ellen Wilson, Hagood; Mrs. Minnie A. Reddick, Mrs. Evangeline Lovett, Mrs. Ethel Jackson, and Mrs. Frances Lovett; 25 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be G. Guy Coker, R. Ned Burroughs, Curtis J. Lovett, Aaron Baughman, Darrell Goins, and W. E. Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Southside Baptist church, the stewards of Whaley Street Methodist church, members of the Fisherman's club of Whaley Street Methodist church, Dr. Frank C. Owens, Dr. L. J. Brannon, the Rev. C. K. Wise, the Rev. Henry Wingard, W. S. Gordon and W. T. Lovett. Also, O. P. Elkins, Leland Browder, F. I. DuBose, J. E. DuBose, John Robinson, H. P. Lovett, Ezekial Lovett, Pou Taylor, W. W. Dodd, Oscar J. Weathersby, W. M. Mobley, T. Alex Heise, T. L. Woods, Fletcher Phillips, J. B. Cameron, and R. L. Coward. Also, H. R. Giles, C. Otis Bouye, Ben F. Davis, Earl Davis, Clarence Wilson, RoyGrant, Charles Medlin, George Self, Andrew Lovett, Edward Lucas, George Smith, and S. P. Wilkinson. The body will remain at the home of his son, Walter Aaron, at 840 Ohio street until time for the services.
Note: It is very hard to tell if his first name is General or Hagood. I cannot find a reference to a military reason for the General to mean his rank. He is enumerated on census records and City Directories as Hagood.
