Mr. Samuel Finis Bailey, 65, of Knifley, died Wednesday afternoon, February 5, at the Taylor County Hospital. He was born December 20, 1903, in Adair County, the son of Syrena Grant and William "Bill" Bailey. He was married June 4, 1930, to Gusta Pendleton, who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Maggie Hougas, Marseilles, Illinois; Mrs. Clairce Peck, Streator, Illinois; Mrs. Ireda Sterling, La Salle, Illinois; and one son, Sam Bailey, of Marseilles, Illinois; ten grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mable Sluder, Marseilles, Illinois; and one brother, Daniel Bailey of Wadsworth, Ohio. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, February 8, at Lyon Funeral Home with the Rev. J. D. Campbell officiating. Burial was in Brookside Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Dewey and Dennis Holcomb, Carl Beard, Leon Gadberry, Bobby Chelf and Troy Hovious. ~The News-Journal, Thursday, February 13, 1969
