Rev. Jim Rich (age 84) passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, following a long battle with cancer. He leaves behind a 56 year legacy of service to our Lord and Savior as a southern Baptist pastor, a wife he dearly loved, generations of family, and many close, loving friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Born in Tattnall County on November 29, 1925, he was the baby of 11 children, a talented singer and musician, a dedicated Pastor and a generous friend who never met a stranger. As a young man, he traveled with several bands playing music up and down the east coast. His call to the ministry at the age of 29 was sure and solid. He did not waver from that call. He was a motivational speaker and entertainer who visited nursing homes, churches and benevolent organizations.

"Mr. Jim" as he was affectionately known, was very active in the Brunswick community. He served as President of the Mended Hearts, President of the local AARP chapter, as an instructor for the AARP 55-Alive Driving Program and as a member of the Mayor's Committee for the Disabled which was
very close to his heart. He visited area nursing homes to provide spiritual and recreational activities.

Those who mourn his passing are his wife Donna Rich, his daughter Carol (Leck) Montgomery, James E. Rich, Jr., Dennis (Debbie) Rich, Joe Rich(Kathy) all of Augusta and his stepchildren Thomas McDaniel of Brunswick, Major Russell (Tonya) McDaniel of Caledonia, MS, Kristi (Jason) Blount of Brunswick, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and leaves a large empty hole in our family.

Memorialization was by cremation with a Memorial Service on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Bay Harbour Church of God in Brunswick, Georgia; followed by a graveside service at the Conners Baptist Church Cemetery in Cobbtown, GA on the same day at 3:00 p.m. with Rev S. W. Middleton of Hinesville and son-in-law, Rev. Jason T. Blount of Brunswick, officiating at both services. In lieu of food and flowers the family requested that donations be made to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, Georgia 31525.

Arrangements were entrusted to Kennedy-Morgan-Brannen Funeral Homes in Cobbtown, GA.
