She was the daughter of Lacy and Nancy (Ogan) Coffey. Her mother died when she was about two and her father remarried her mother's older sister, Margaret. She was raised by her stepmother, who was also her aunt.
She married Charles J "Charlie" Shockley about 1900, probably in Grainger County. They were the parents of James Elisha, Ernest Henry, Lonnie P and Stella Mae Shockley.
After the death of her first husband in 1912, married Nathaniel T "Nathan" Coffey on Jan. 5, 1915, in Grainger County.
She died of tuberculosis.
