Bill was a son of William John Henry Abernathy and Emma Elizabeth Haynes Abernathy. Bill's siblings: Eva Abernathy married: Harley McGlaughn; Otis m: Frankie Morris; Sallie Abernathy m: Lee Roy Williams; Arnold; Edward; Clarence m: Marion Smith; Harvey m: Jewell Perkins; Clara Abernathy m: Cecil Elrod; Herbert Hoover m: Mary Jean Cambron; and Annie Abernathy m: J.O. Jester.
