Friday, 4 Apr 1924, Vol 37 No 50--MRS. JANE MATTOCKS--Mrs. Jane Mattocks, whose maiden name was Parsons, was born in Montgomery county, Mo., January 19, 1845, and went to her heavenly reward March 30, 1924, aged 79 years, 2 months and 11 days. She was united in marriage to Robert Mattocks in June, 1864. To this union were born four children, James of St. Louis; Charles, of Chaffee, Mo.; Lena Munson, of Moberly, and William, lately deceased, of Colorado. She also leaves seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, besides an innumerable host of friends to mourn her loss to this world. Her husband preceded her to the Beautiful Shore nearly 24 years ago, October 25, 1900, and her son Will, her baby boy, went likewise April 7, 1920. Mrs. Mattocks was a devoted Christian woman, having united with the Presbyterian church during her early girlhood years. She was a loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a true and faithful friend, always ready to help others in need. She came with her husband and family from Montgomery City, Mo., to Higbee in about 1894 and had lived here ever since, but occasionally left for awhile on a visit to her children. Her health had been gradually failing for several years, but some two weeks ago she had a light stroke of paralysis followed by a cold which developed into pneumonia. All of this was too much for her strength and at 5 o'clock Sunday morning her gentle spirit was wafted away to the author of its being. A short funeral service was held at 11 o'clock by Roy Reed, after which the beloved form was taken by rail to Whiteside, Mo., where the regular funeral was held the next day and interment made. Aunt Jane, rest in peace!
