Daughter of Joseph Henry and Nancy Beulah (REEDY) BROOKS, who married 11 MAY 1879. Beulah was the niece of Joseph's first wife, Keziah (WILLIS) BROOKS.

Burial entry in the sexton's ledger book shows: Cora BROOKS was born in Muscogee County, Georgia, died aged 2 years of membranous croup, and was buried 07 SEP 1896 in the Nance Lot [= city 2-879, which is Autry D-41; written in above later, "Lot 902, Sec. C] as a non-resident of Columbus, Georgia (resided in Muscogee County, so probably died there). The sexton was Jesse Alexander BEARD. A separate entry shows that, on 04 MAR 1908, the remains of Corrie BROOKS were removed from Section 2, Lot 879, and reinterred in Section C, Lot 902.

Daniel Olds’ index of deaths, AUG 1890 to DEC 1918, from the Muscogee County Death Register, on file with the Muscogee County Health Department’s Office of Vital Records, shows: Cora BROOKS, "White" female, died aged 1 years on 06 SEP 1896. [On this list, age 1 year could be anything between age 0 and 2 years. Furthermore, despite appearances, this database is not proof that someone died in Muscogee County. Analysis indicates that the database includes information on persons who were buried at one of the Columbus municipal cemeteries, whether they died in Muscogee County or elsewhere, and usually excludes persons who died in Muscogee County but were buried at a site other than one of the Columbus municipal cemeteries.]

Other persons buried in city C-902 include: Keziah (WILLIS) BROOKS, buried 05 FEB 1879 (age 38), Larkin BROOKS, buried 28 JUN 1879 (age 3); Augustus BROOKS, buried 24 JUL 1879 (age 6 months); Willis "Billy" BROOKS, buried 06 OCT 1880 (aged 7 months); D. A.? "Lois" BROOKS, buried 31 JAN 1891 (age 4 or 5 months); stillborn baby of J. H. ADAMS, buried 13 SEP 1892; stillborn infant of J. H. ADAMS, buried 13 JUN 1893 (reported in C-905, which lot number appears to be an error); infant of J. H. ADAMS, buried 18 APR 1894 (aged 6 hours); and Z. A. BROOKS, Jr., buried 30 JUN 1917 (age 9).

Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" (edited by Lea Dowd et al.), Volume 3, p. 211, includes a note from relative Ken Thomas: "I think his sisters called him Billy, although [he was] born [and died] way before they were born." The text reports his name as "Willie," but it seems to me that the sexton record "Willies" was trying to convey that he was named Willis, which was his the child's maternal grandmother's maiden name (as well as the maiden name of Joseph Henry's first wife Keziah). They Autry/Dowd text further states: "This lot (J-181) was accidentally omitted from the first printing. My sincerest appreciation to Ken Thomas for his information on this lot." Unlike a traditional publication, this work is available in a print-on-demand basis through an online press. There is no "first printing," "second printing," etc. As the text was altered from the original version, what Dowd should have said here is "second edition." Unlike the first and second volumes, Volume 3 includes no title page. None of the volumes includes information on what printing or edition the book is, only that Volume 1 was copyrighted in 2006 and Volume 2 in 2007; no copyright date included in Volume 3.
