Janet was preceded in death by her grandmother, Marion Scanlon, and her step-father John Mueller.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Bill, her mother, Nancy Scanlon Mueller, her grandfather Milton Scanlon Sr., aunt Arlene McAtee (Richard), their children; Debbie Legano, Sandra Shiftlett, and Richie McAtee, uncle Milton Scanlon, Jr. (Ruth) and their child Cindy Rook, as well as, several grand nieces and nephews.
Janet moved to Western North Carolina in 2001, after residing in Fort Myers for 34 years. She graduated from Fort Myers High School and attended Edison Community College. She was a licensed Florida real estate broker, a legal secretary and a school secretary at Lehigh Senior H.S. and Estero H.S. before retiring to North Carolina. She was an avid reader, loved the beach, watching the hummingbirds at her house and going to Charleston, SC.
A memorial service was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sylva, NC on August 18, 2007. Mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection in Fort Myers on September 1, at 9:30 AM with Father Oliver Toner as the celebrant. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens for the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Center at the Moffitt Cancer Research Institute at USF, 12902 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612-9497 in Janet's memory.
