City Founders Cemetery /
Old Pittsville Cemetery /
Township of Wood
In Pittsville, at the southeast corner of Jackson Street and First Avenue.
Final resting place of Oliver Pitts & family – other early settlers.
This cemetery is the final resting place of men, women and children who settled Pittsville and the surrounding area. Some tombstones have weathered, some broke; some graves were never marked. Some stones were moved, but time and nature cannot remove the life these people pioneered for us –
Their Living Memorial
The site of Pittsville was surveyed March 31, 1883, by H. W. Remington, under the direction of George Hiles, of Dexterville, and Lawrence Ward, of Pittsville, and it was recorded July 12, 1883. A new cemetery, Mound Cemetery, was laid out by order of the city, the survey being recorded Jan. 28, 1896.
The cemetery is no longer used for interments.
