|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
As church burial grounds in Albany filled, a city cemetery was opened in the 1780s and another was established in 1801, with many of those previously interred at the old cemetery moved to the new site. However, because of flooding problems there, Albany Rural Cemetery was created on April 2, 1841 and bodies were moved again from the 1801 cemetery to be reinterred at the present site. Albany Rural Cemetery now is a 467 acre National Historic Landmark site with many beautiful and unique gravestones as well as famous people. Ancestry has a set of Burial Cards (1791 – 2011) for this cemetery http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=2226&enc=1 which can include dates, places, cause of death, lot information as well as family information.
