Martial Law Era Political Victims Cemetery #3
This is the third of three burial grounds for executed political prisoners from the period of political oppression in Taiwan's history known as the White Terror (1949-1987).
It's located within the section of Jile Cemetery that you first encounter heading uphill along Chongde St. At 269 Chongde St. there's a small temple and funeral services complex. There's a stairway going up from there. Walk up to the top of the stairway and turn right. To the left, you'll see the black marble sign marking the site. Walk past it, the turn right and walk past some graves and a thicket, to a clearing. The White Terror graves are small, roughly hewn stones with red characters painted on them.
All names are listed in Hanyu Pinyin, unless the interred already has an established historical spelling. Though they most likely would have used Wade-Giles, Hanyu Pinyin provides more accurate information of pronunciation.
