Cemetery notes and/or description:
The Wolfe-Foster Cemetery, also known as the Cleveland Cemetery is located about four miles northwest of Roanoke in Denton County, Texas on the north banks of Denton Creek. It is now in an area considered the upper basin of Grapevine Reservoir. It is on land owned by Mrs. Gloria Slaughter Hammack of Dallas, Texas, and can be found by going north from Ft Worth on I35W, right on FM 1171, then right on Gibbs Road and through the grounds of the North Texas Air Port, and on to the gravel pit of Austin Bridge Company.

A Mr Josiah Wolfe, and his wife Savannah, owned considerable land on the north banks of Denton Creek, and to farm this land required that he have hired help. During this time, he hired a young couple from Arkansas. They had been in his employment for approximately two years when their two year old daughter became ill and died. Josiah, being a man of compassion, allowed the young couple to pick a burial place on his farm for their daughter. The couple picked a place on a knoll among some oak trees near Denton Creek. The parents were much grieved by the death of their child, and within a few months mounted their horse, the woman behind the man, and returned to Arkansas. This was the beginning of the cemetery where some fifty to sixty people have been buried, many of them small children. There are numerous graves without markers of any kind, including the first little girl, and identity of most of them will probably never be established.

At times this cemetery has been referred to as the Foster Cemetery. It could very well carry this name because of the number of Fosters buried there. A number of Tharps, Clevelands and Thomas Alex Wolfe are also buried on top of this small knoll made all the more prominent due to the recent digging at the gravel pit.
