|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Located in the woods west of Seney Hall and gymnasium on the Oxford College Campus. Down a wooded path behind the college gym is a secluded, quiet cemetery containing 31 Confederate graves and a Confederate memorial. During the Civil War, Oxford College postponed academics and became a military hospital for soldiers returning from Civil War battle sites from both the North and the South. This Civil War cemetery walking tour is located on present-day Oxford College’s campus near the “Old Church” which is the school’s first chapel. Thirty-one soldiers from Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and Florida are interred here; five of them are unknown.
