This is among one of the oldest cemeteries in Mercer County having been started in about 1808. Located on Route 418 (Mercer Avenue) off US 62 By Pass (aka Shenango Valley Freeway).
History (from "The History of Mercer County, 1909"):
Originally named Moorfield Cemetery, it was laid out around the Moorfield log Presbyterian church between 1802 - 1808. Samuel Stokely donated 5 acres. The first ruling elders were William Welch, William Campbell, and John Moore, who the church was named after. He had settled on the State road about 1800, east of "Hickory Corners." The cemetery was not originally laid out in any particular order and was neglected for many years. In 1853, the "Moorfield Cemetery Association" was chartered, but it was not until 1874 that the cemetery was re-surveyed and plotted.
In 1833 portions of two townships, Pymatuning and Shenango, merged to form the town of Hickory. In 1976, Hickory's name was changed to Hermitage.
