Cemetery notes and/or description:
Cemetery was labeled simply "Colored" on the 1925 Sanborn map, the only map on which it appears. Consequently, it was called "Colored" during the first part of the cemetery survey. The name "Brush Arbor" is used because this was the site of the brush arbor meetings during Reconstruction. According to the WPA history, the site was purchased by local African-Americans for a worship spot. Cemetery was cleaned by Dr. Mfanya Tryman and a number of volunteers from the NAACP and the Starkville Police Department, 2004. Many sunken and unmarked graves. (New Cemetery Survey of Oktibbeha County, 2008)
