Cemetery notes and/or description:
From Carroll County Genealogical Society's Carroll County Cemetery Book Volume 6: The denomination known as Methodist Episcopal South originated in the 1840s when Methodists split over the issue of slavery. Benjamin Bennett, a trustee of Bethel Church in 1860, left that church because of his pro-slavery feelings. Either he or P.J. Bennett gave land plus money to build Bethany Church in 1871. It was a frame church on one large room. the church trustees that year included W. H. Hooper, S. Gorsuch, H. Dorsey, D. H. Dudderar, Augustus Norris, P.J. Bennett and Rev. Jas. Pearre.

About 65 years after its founding, the Church's membership had dwindled to the point that the doors were closed and those members who were left joined St. James Methodist Church. Around the year 1946 the Church was sold and removed from its foundation. (Much of the material was used to construct a barroom according to several older residents of the area.) The only thing remaining was a marble cornerstone in the foundation which was later incorporated in a 1952 addition to Taylorsville Methodist church.

The cemetery is still being used for burials and is well-kept. There is an active Bethany Cemetery Board.
