|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This is the original part of the church's cemetery, and is located across the field in the woods, a few hundred yards south of the present church building and cemetery.
There are over 60 graves marked only with fieldstones.
"On May 25, 1833, a group of people met with the purpose of forming a new church. The Dover Church began as a brush arbor meeting. The first church building is reported to have been a one room log church. The church had a dirt floor on which the members put down straw to keep the dust down."
"Dover appointed Huston Holsclaw as their first Church Clerk. W.P. Swanson was elected as their first pastor."
Stephen Medlock, also a minister at Dover, was ordained same day, same service as Houston Holsclaw.
NOTE: Do not confuse with the newer cemetery immediately behind the church:
Dover Baptist Cemetery
The two areas were surveyed as one in 1941 by WPA worker Pauline Bolick.
