|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
In all of us there is a hunger, marrow deep, to know our heritage, to know who we are, and where we have come from.
Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning, no matter what our attainments in life; there is a most disquieting loneliness.
DeVelle Memorial Cemetery is small Black American Cemetery on land once owned by the DeVelle Family. During our visit to the cemetery; we counted 21 marked graves and 1 unmarked grave.
This is a well maintained cemetery that is surrounded by brick pillars and a iron fence. The cemetery might also be known to elders as DeVelle Family Cemetery or Mount Pilgrim Cemetery.
Our 3rd cousin Emma Alexander DeVelle and family are buried in the cemetery. She is a descendant of our Prewitt family from Northport, Alabama.
