|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Cemetery surrounded by rock wall in town of Jefferson (Schoharie County), north of Stamford (Delaware County), New York.
This small cemetery is located on private property in a small subdivision ("Whiting Hollow") surrounding an artificial lake in Schoharie County, New York, near the Delaware County line. It is NOT mentioned on the JIMAPCO county map, which gives the locations of many other local cemeteries.
Most of the legible surnames or maiden names are "Stewart," and many burials are from the 1880s.
It is surrounded by a wall of flat rocks about 3-4 feet high, similar to the walls that used to mark off fields in this region, many of which still survive.
The cemetery is totally overgrown, the gate off its hinges.. A large house is being constructed between the cemetery and the lake, and very serious landscaping has taken place. --6DT
