|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
Lady of the Valley Cemetery is situated on Highway 395 between Colville and Kettle Falls Washington in the old settlement of Ward. The cemetery was a part of the Dominican Convent. Previously the land was part of the Saint Francis Regis Mission. This cemetery was used to bury the nuns who served at the convent. There are only 20 burials in the cemetery. The cemetery is well maintained and the headstones are all in good shape. There is a stone double arched entry to the cemetery and the cemetery is encompassed by a hedge on three sides. All stones have been photographed and entered on Find A Grave. Saint Francis Regis Mission Cemetery is across the highway on the hill overlooking the old convent. These are two distinct and separate cemeteries.
The convent no longer exists, but some of the buildings survive and are privately owned and operate as a bed and breakfast called "My Parents Estate". The cemetery is landlocked by this private property and permission must be obtained to visit. The cemetery is not viewable from the Highway due to trees on the grounds of the bed & breakfast.
All remains have been removed from this cemetery and re-interred elsewhere as of fall 2011.
