The Friends Burying Ground is accessed by way of the neighboring Rural Cemetery. The cemetery is owned by the Dartmouth Monthly Meeting of Friends but managed by the City of New Bedford.
The border of this cemetery along Dartmouth Street is marked by an iron fence. There are granite boundary posts that separate the cemetery from Rural Cemetery.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission does not refer to this cemetery in MACRIS, however, it is mentioned extensively in the report for the Rural Cemetery.
This cemetery is referenced to in the book "Vital Records of New Bedford, Massachusetts to 1850" Published by: New England Historic Genealogical Society as G.R.2, Friends Burying Ground, adjoining the old part of Rural Cemetery.
