|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
On new Rte 86 on the eastern side of the road opposite the Fifth Church and new cemetery, a short distance south of the intersection with SR-1723.
Additional information: This cemetery was abandoned in 1869. In 1975 there were 89 marked graves and 121 graves marked by field stones and/or depressions. There are thought to be seven veterans of the American Revolution buried in this old cemetery. A monument to them is in the new cemetery.
In 2005-2006 Eagle Scout Eric Dodson of Orange County led a group of Scouts and church members in identifying and resetting grave markers in the cemetery. After restoring the markers, they landscaped the cemetery so it appears much as it did 200 years age. [Chapel Hill News, Sunday, 19 Mar 2006].
Stone marker inscribed: "This stone marks the site of the first church building erected about 1756"
