|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The cemetery lies on the south bank of Little Bayou Black and just west of Terrebonne Main Library. The access to the historic cemetery is now from the west parking lot of the library. The cemetery is named for Southdown Plantation and was promised to the plantation's workers on a handshake from Kate Minor, daughter of slaveholder Henry Minor, sometime between 1869 and 1923, according to reports prepared for Terrebonne Parish. The cemetery includes the unmarked graves of slaves, which were discovered outside the traditional boundaries of the cemetery when studies were undertake prior to building the adjacent library.
