HISTORY
The first church in Tucker District of Wirt County, that we have a record of, is Bethel United Brethren Church, which is located one mile above Morristown. The records show that on February 29, 1872 George E. Hubbard and his wife Sarah J. Hubbard, deeded a lot to Trustees John T.James, Robert H. Davis and John W. Plum, A hewed log structure was built as a church that same year. The building of the church was a great undertaking by it's members and stands as an example of the importance of religion to those early settlers.
In the early 1950's, the previous church, a log structure, was still standing and being used as a stable on the farm owned by Charles Murrey. A new church was built in 1901-1902 and replaced the old one. This structure is located on what is now the farm owned by the Dan Ralston family. The late 1950's and 60's saw the last useful days of this old church. This structure still stands but sadly is in advanced stages of decay and will soon fade into history. Photo on this site. The Congregation moved from this church to what is known as the Gant or today as Morristown Community Church.
