|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
This cemetery is behind the Essex Shipbuilding Museum and dates back to 1680. It is referred to as GR1 Old Burial Ground in the "Vital Records of Essex Massachusetts to the end of the year 1849".
Stones face SSW. At roughly 10:30AM (in November), the sun will hit them at an excellent angle to highlight inscriptions.
Most of the stones in the center and to the right (facing the cemetery) are 19th century stones. To the left are the older 18th (slate) and 17th century (schist) stones.
