The Anatomy Act of 1st Aug 1832 directed that the bodies of all executed criminals belonged to the Crown and were now to be buried in the prison grounds in unmarked graves, often several to a grave to save space.
Confusingly, many execution burials were recorded both at the prison cemetery and at the nearby St Mary's churchyard, Stafford.
