|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Driftwood Christian Church Cemetery is located in Driftwood Township, south of Vallonia. It dates back to the pioneer days of Indiana, with some burials made as early as 1814 and continuing to the present day. The original church building, a simple log meeting house, was on the same property as the cemetery. The church acquired additional land across the road in the 1840s, where the current building stands. The cemetery property itself was expanded once in 1900. The church and its cemetery are occasionally referred to locally as the White Church.
Other small cemeteries in Jackson County have used (or continue to use) the name Driftwood, so take care to verify burial sites and records.
Directions: Drive south from Vallonia about 3 miles on State Road 135. The cemetery is located at the northeast corner of the intersection with County Road 550, directly across the highway from the church.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) feature ID for the church is 433692 (Driftwood Church).
The cemetery is listed in the Cemetery and Burial Grounds Registry of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and in the State Historical Architectural and Archaeological Research Database (SHAARD) with Cemetery Record Number CR-36-58 (Driftwood/White Church).
