Kapellenplatz 3
25767 Albersdorf
GERMANY
Albersdorf is a small village in the eastern part of Dithmarschen County with about 3500 inhabitants. This cemetery is several hundreds of years old, with some old grave markers remaining from the 17th century. As of 2015 the cemetery records list about 4500 current burials, including the names of those individuals mentioned on the several war memorials and soldiers' graves. Since some of their names and some of their actual burial location are often unknown, those names are often not including in this listing.
Please note that the graves in Germany are not perpetual. After a certain period of repose (20-30 years) the graves are being leveled and re-used. There is no toxic embalming being done in Germany, so the coffin and the corpse have decomposed naturally. If the family of the deceased decides to purchase another period the duration can be extended by another 30 years. War Graves are considered memorials and are kept up by the owner of the cemetery. Those are kept forever. This cemetery has several war grave sections and monuments. The 12th century church in the middle is dedicated to St. Remigius.
