From Pineville, go east on LA Hwy. 28, turn right onto Parish Road 1207. Go past Buckeye School to Deville and continue straight for .2 miles past the blinking light ,LA Hwy. 115,. Cemetery is located on the right behind Saint John The Baptist Catholic Church. The area is divided down the center with a walkway and a white cross, benches and birdbath. A brief history of the cemetery and biographical notes on Father Alfred (as he was called by his congregation) was graciously provided by Audry Vandersypen, a
descendant of Michel Deville.


After the population shifted from the vicinity of Old Catholic Church to the Big Island area, families realized a church and cemetery at Deville would be required. A meeting was held in the home of Michel Deville, and pledges were received for the construction of a new church. Mr. Deville donated a yoke of oxen, which when sold, provided enough money for half the lumber. Mr. Broullette built the church in 1880 on land donated by John Hanlin, an Episcopalian. Mr. Hanlin was .

Michel Deville was involved in the local leadership of the community and was instrumental in the development of the school system in the Deville--Buckeye area. He and his wife Lucy are buried in the Old Catholic Cemetery. Submitted by Jane P. McManus, July 2000.
