Cemetery notes and/or description:
Taylor/Liberty Hill Cemetery originated as the family graveyard on the plantation of Judge John Taylor, an early
settler and first parish judge who arrived in Union Parish in 1837. The earlier marked tombstone dates from 1844,
erected over the grave of John Taylor's daughter. About 1845, Taylor allowed the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church to
build a meeting house near his family cemetery. In 1848, this Missionary Baptist church dissolved and reformed as
Liberty Hill Primitive Baptist Church. Due to its association with Judge Taylor, both Liberty Hill Church and the
Cemetery became referred to as "Taylor Church" and the "Taylor Cemetery" by the latter 1800s.
Over the next thirty years after its formation in the early 1840s, the cemetery developed into a community
cemetery. In the mid-1900s, it became known as the "Taylor/Liberty Hill Cemetery," the name by which it goes today.
