Maria Immaculata Cemetery
Cemetery of the Sisters of Christian Charity (Western Province)
Off Elmwood Avenue (see description below)
This cemetery was established in 1919 for the Sisters of Christian Charity, shortly after the completion of their motherhouse. The sisters erected a Province Center at 2041 Elmwood Avenue, and created a driveway to the cemetery that passes the convent. The motherhouse was sold in 1999 and is now condos. The land surrounding the former motherhouse is now part of the Wilmette Parks and Recreation property.
The cemetery contains the remains of the Sisters who served the Western Province. The grave markers are the in-ground type. Near the base of the crucifix, in the center of the western side of the cemetery, are two memorial markers listings the names of the Sisters who are interred in other states (Louisiana, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri).
