|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The South Jefferson Cemetery was established in 1902. It is a mature cemetery with relatively few unused grave sites remaining. The cemetery’s records were destroyed in a fire many years ago. The locations of unmarked graves are therefore lost. The office of the adjoining and non-related Bethany Memorial Cemetery has a partial list of the marked graves in the South Jefferson Cemetery.
Note: It is important not to confuse the locations of graves in the South Jefferson Cemetery with those of the adjoining and non-related Bethany Memorial Cemetery. On the north boundary only a faint earthen berm separates the gravestones of the South Jefferson Cemetery from those of the Bethany Memorial Cemetery. Duplicate and erroneous Find-A-Grave memorials have been created due to the close proximity of the two cemeteries.
