Located at Chapel Alley and 5th Street, Laboring Sons Cemetery was established in 1851 by The Beneficial Society of the Laboring Sons of Frederick City. After years of neglect, the mostly forgotten cemetery was turned over to the city and, in 1950, a park was placed on the site. In 1999, the cemetery was rediscovered and public protests began the change from a park to a memorial.
It is estimated that as many as 1500 people are buried here.
