County Cork Ireland (4000-1500 B.C.)
Despite their age, Stone Cirtles and Circle High Crosses still stand in Ireland.
‘Stone Circles' are ancient monuments thought to be connected with people's religious beliefs. They frequently contained burial pits or cambers. Old myths hint that these sites were associated with dancing to the sun and moon. Many are aligned to either the summer or winter solstice.
Our Stone Circle (2007) is made from stones found on the farms of our Irish ancestors here in Ste. Agatha.
‘Celtic High Crosses' are symbols that combine that cross with a circle surrounding the intersection. They became prevalent during the transition from paganism to Christianity in Ireland. It is believed the cross, the symbol of Christianity, and the circle, the symbol of the sun, would give pagan followers an idea of the importance of the cross by linking it with their belief in the life-giving properties of the sun.
Our Celtic Cross (2000) was dedicated to the memory of the Irish who settled in this area.
