St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery (Cadogan West Cemetery)
St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, better know by the local residents as Cadogan West is located approximately one mile west of Cadogan along the south side of Highway #600. The cemetery is easily visiable from the highway as it rests on a hillside in open prairie.
The cemetery is actually in two parts. The Catholic cemetery is on the west side of the property and is separated from the Protestant side by a driveway and a cairn on which is a tribute to the pioneers of the district. There are two iron gates to the property, on either side of the large cemetery sign which reads, "Cadogan Cemetery, 1912". Alec Engel's family had homesteaded this property and donated land for the cemetery. Alec's grandparents are buried in the cemetery. The first recorded burial was of Gerhard Clifford Broemeling in April 1912.
Cadogan, AB is located 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) south of Highway 13, approximately 110 kilometres (68 mi) southwest of Lloydminster.
Mrs. Florence Fossen, Box 96, Cadogan, T0B 0T0 maintains records of the cemetery and acts as a resource person for those interested. Very few records were available to assist in the original documentation of the cemetery.
