Hollowfield Cemetery
Dover Forge, Ocean County, New Jersey, USA
Near Cedar Creek, set back from the road, is a small cemetery in which thirty-one graves may be noted. Tall pines shelter the cemetery but cannot protect the graves from the desecration of sick people who have destroyed many stone markers and who use the area for beer parties. Today, no markers remain. Over the years, Captain Edward and Margaret Britton and Mr. John Septor have endeavored to maintain what is known as Hollow Fields Cemetery. Twice wooden crosses have been erected, the second set replacing those destroyed by hoodlums.
Among those interred here are: Zebulon Collins and his wife, Rebecca; beside them are four of their five children. Zebulon Collins, Jr., uncle of James Branson and Richard Collins, grandfather of James Branson lie here. Betsy Collins, grandmother of James, paternal grandmother of .James is here. Harvey Craft, Sr. who died in 1887 was the last person buried here. Among others interred here are members of the Austin, Akins and Applegate families. James Branson was born January 30,1879 and died February 19, 1971. These people were important in the history of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. They lived in a much more simple era of our history, but as with all mentioned in this series of caches, contributed to the strength of our nation.
