In 1980, the garden was given the additional purpose of providing a holy place for the internment of ashes, and designated as a Memorial Garden. An olive tree, imported from Israel, was donated for planting by Phil and Norma Stocklin. In 1981, Carleton Emery, in memory of his wife Luise Emery, a charter member of Holy Apostles, established an endowment. The earnings of endowment are designated for the care of the Garden,
Throughout the years, this money has enabled the caretakers to enhance and beautify the garden. A statue of St. Francis was installed in 1982, as was the wooden backdrop fencing. In 1983 the first of several fences across the front was installed. A stone marker identifying the Holy Apostles Memorial Garden, designed by Carleton Emery, was installed in 1990. A Memorial Cross, donated in memory of Keith P. Boggs, was added in 1997; the cross contains the names of those whose ashes rest in the garden. In 1998 a garden gate was installed, and on November 15 of that year, the Memorial Garden was consecrated and rededicated by the Rt. Rev. Hugo Pina-Lopez, Assisting Bishop of the Diocese of Central Florida.
Many other plants and objects have been donated as memorials as well, and the landscaping has been redone several times. The statue of St. Francis has been moved out of the Memorial Garden to the other side of the sacristy sidewalk. In March 2007 this area was dedicated as a Pet Memorial Garden, providing a place of repose for the cremated remains of our animal companions. Also in 2007 new fencing was installed across the front of the Memorial Garden.
