|South-central portion of Harrison County|
|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The first burial was that of Harmon Butler, son of Asaph M. Butler on July 23, 1853. Asaph Butler was a judge of the first County Court of Harrison County. He died May 9, 1892 and is buried in this cemetery. A 1962 survey stated that there were "77 visible graves".
Butler Cemetery is located in the middle of section 17 in Cypress Township in the south-central portion of Harrison County. From Bethany, take highway 69 south exactly 5 1/2 miles from the 69 and 136 intersection on the southwest side of town.
There will be a house on the right (west) side of the road and a gate which allows access to a grass lane on the left (east). Go through the gate and up the lane to the top of the hill. This lane will have a fence on both sides. There will be another gate at the top of the hill. Go through this gate, angle to the left and follow the ridge line to the cemetery. Considering its location, it is accessable and fairly well maintained.
The property owner allows access, but PLEASE close all gates!
