FEBRUARY 2013 UPDATE: THE BARTON FAMILY BURYING GROUND HAS BEEN LOCATED!
The Barton Family Burying Ground is an abandoned cemetery on private property in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County, NJ. Litho has taken pictures of some of the tombstones there and will be trying to locate Captain Elisha Barton's grave and/or tombstone this spring, after more of the site is cleared. The owner of the site does not want the exact location known to the public.
This is the burial site of Captain Elisha Barton (1729 - 1823) who fought in the Revolutionary War and his wife, Jemima Van Kirk Barton. From the book "Abstract of Graves of Revolutionary Patriots: Volume 1, A-D by Patricia Law Hatcher," on page 58, Elisha Barton's grave is listed at "Barton Fam Yard, Hunterdon, NJ." The burial ground is in Raritan Township, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Its not precisely located in Flemington, but Flemington is near by.
Jemima Barton - "she died on April 3, 1815 in Amwell, Hunterdon, NJ and was buried in Barton Burial Ground, Rariton Twp, Hunterdon, NJ."
The Barton Family Burying Ground was cleared by the current homeowner in the fall of 2012. Many of the stones were broken or stolen by teens according to neighbors. The remaining stones were photographed in December and posted on findagrave.com. The farm house no longer exists.
