Old Anton Chico was the original Campo Santo de San Jose (see cemetery of that name), and sometimes the name used by locals is "Old Campo Santo de San Jose." Unfortunately, Old Anton Chico is not accessible by road. It's a short hike, approximately 100 yards from the SW corner of the "new" cemetery, West up the shallow canyon to the old Campo Santo. There appears to have been a bridge at the NE corner of Old Anton Chico to allow for access by vehicle, but was washed out some time ago, leaving about a six foot creek bed that can be crossed on foot.
Several places in the fence around the cemetery have been breached and not repaired, allowing access by cattle from the contiguous ranches. I estimate the size of Old Anton Chico to be about five acres, and have 500 graves, only about half having readable identification on the headstone. A stone fence appears to have been started on the W boundary but only about 30 yards of it remains. There were recent decorations on a few graves. I found it to be a lovely setting.
