Source: Stanly County, USA, by Ivey L Sharpe & Edgar F. Pepper, III, p. 174, 202-3, 207: Zoar Methodist Church near the Yadkin River, which meant 'little church', disbanded and united with Bethesda about 1925 to form Union Chapel United Methodist Church. It began as a log meeting house with members from the Ivey and Shankle families. There are no early records as to when it began. Nothing remains of the church but a rock-walled cemetery overgrown with large oak trees. The father and mother of George Washington Ivey, Pioneer Circuit Rider, are buried here with a tall tombstone marking their graves.
