The cemetery is located in the grounds of an old derelict church.
A plaque in the grounds notes that on 27th July 1651, the day after the Battle of Knockbrack, a section of Lord Broghill's Cromwellian Army under the control of Maxwell, one of Broghill's officers, set fire to the church in which 400 people were seeking refuge.
Roger Boyle [25 April 1621 - 16 October 1679], Lord Broghill, was the fourth [second surviving] son of Richard Boyle [The "Great" Earl of Cork].
A preliminary survey of the cemetery was carried out on 20th November 2011.
Commandant-General Denis Galvin is buried here.
