|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The cemetery is located in the grounds of an old ruined church, and appears to have been in use from around 1800 up to the early 1900's. It is now in very poor condition, and is overgrown in most areas.
The inscriptions on the majority of the heastones are illegible, due to erosion over time.
It is still in use for burials in family plots, but most current burials take place in the adjoining new section,
Dromod Burial Ground
Nearby cemeteries include
Murreagh, St Finian Churchyard
Some of those buried here, have been recorded by Kerry County Council as being buried in the adjoining new section. Where these errors have been found, a correction has been made on the memorial in the new section cemetery.
The ashes of
a Journalist, and former Chief-of-Staff of the IRA, were interred here in September 2011.
The survey of the cemetery was carried out on Monday 31 October 2010.
All legible headstones were photographed.
