|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
On August 20, 1887 Isaiah Byerly and his wife Mary deeded 1 1/2 acres of land to William A. Byerly and Joseph Cartner who were trustees of the Methodist Protestant Church of Davie County, NC. The church was organized with seven members.
The cemetery at the church had been used for many years before the building of the church. The church was used until the early 1930's with the very last service being the funeral service of William A. Byerly.
For many, many years after the church was abandoned, the area was used for frequent weekend gatherings where vandals destroyed tombstones, opened graves, and desecrated the church building itself. Finally about 1980, the building was torn down and the lumber sold in an attempt to stop the weekly vandalism.
The cemetery is located in Davie County. From Davie Academy Rd, turn onto Mr. Henry Road. Byerlys Chapel Church Road is located on the left about .8 mile. Although the church is gone, the cemetery is beautifully maintained.
