|Cemetery notes and/or description:|
The Clover Fields Cemetery is a private plot on the "Clover Fields" farm in Albemarle county, Virginia. The farm is on land first patented by Nicholas Meriwether II in 1730 and for many years the original land grand from the King of England was prominently displayed on the farmhouse wall. Many Meriwethers and relations are buried there, including Lt. William Lewis, father of Capt. Meriwether Lewis, co-leader of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. Now known as "Cloverfields", the land has been under continuous ownership by Meriwether descendants since 1730.
The first recorded burial there was Capt. William Lewis in 1779, but it is presumed that Nicholas Meriwether, who built "Clover FIelds" in 1760, was buried there in 1772.
